That is the word now making the rounds at PNP round tables and talkshops, as its feared that should Holness or Tufton be elected JLP leader, Portia will not be able to “take home the bacon” for the opposition PNP.
Many party faithful sees Peter Phillips as a much better candidate to take the party into the next election if the PNP are to assure themselves of an election victory and now needs to get Portia out of the way. Portia is not yielding and would like to become the first elected female Prime Minister of Jamaica in a history creating moment. Party insiders are suggesting she has been Jamaica’s first and only female Prime Minister and as such should cast aside her ambitions of being the first elected female PM and give Peter Phillips the reign of the party.
The PNP does not want a repeat of the ugly spat which occurred the last time Peter challenged Portia and was soundly trounced and he does not want to again make this mistake which would signal the end of his political career and his aspirations on becoming Prime Minister.
Interesting times are ahead and we shall see how this one plays out.
